Drowning in debt in the metroplex? Attorney Michael Hollins helps DFW families file Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 from home, with flat fees and no judgment. Same-day, next-day, and Saturday consultations available.
The day we file your case, the automatic stay forces most creditors to stop. Here is what that means in plain terms.
Have a foreclosure date on your Dallas or Fort Worth home? Filing halts the sale and gives you room to catch up or restructure what you owe.
If a creditor is taking money from your paycheck, filing stops the garnishment so your full check comes home to your family.
About to lose your vehicle? We move quickly to stop the repossession so you can keep getting to work and keep your life moving.
Which court hears your case depends on the county you live in. Here is how it works across the metroplex.
Earle Cabell Federal Building, 1100 Commerce Street, Dallas, TX 75242. Serves Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Ellis, Hunt, Navarro, and Johnson counties.
Eldon B. Mahon U.S. Courthouse, 501 W. 10th Street, Fort Worth, TX 76102. Serves Tarrant, Parker, Wise, Hood, Palo Pinto, Erath, Jack, and Comanche counties.
Both divisions are part of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas. One important detail many people miss: if you live in Collin County or Denton County, including Plano, Frisco, McKinney, and Denton, your case is filed in the Eastern District of Texas in Plano or Sherman, not the Dallas court. Knowing which court applies to your address is part of getting your case filed correctly the first time, and it is something we handle for you.
You also will not be filing alone or showing up to a courtroom in most cases. The one required hearing, the 341 meeting of creditors, is held by Zoom or phone in our districts. We prepare your paperwork, file the case, and walk you through that meeting in advance so there are no surprises.
Texas has some of the most protective exemption laws in the country. For most families, bankruptcy is not about losing everything. It is about keeping what matters and clearing the debt.
Exemptions depend on your specific situation. We review your numbers with you before you file so you know exactly what is protected.
